When it comes to passion there seems to be some kind of stigma around finding out what it is so we can just go and do it. But here’s the thing, passion doesn’t always just smack you in the face and say here I am in all its glory. Anyone who gets that happen to them is a rare find. The majority of us have no idea what our passion is, and that’s totally ok.
When it comes to passion, it’s not something you find. It’s not something that you need to go searching for. To find your passion all you need to do is wake up. Become more aware of your life. Recognise the difference between what excites you, and what you can easily pass on. What are you complimented on? What comes to you easy? What do you volunteer for?
You already know what your passion is, you just need to reconnect to it. And want to know how you reconnect to it? By starting something.
I can give you prompt questions as long as my arm (and I still might?) to help you sift through your memories for the gold, but nothing on paper is going to compare to getting out there and taking action. If you have a hundred ideas on what you think you love, or could turn into a business, or what would “sell” because you see a space in the market for it, then pick one of those ideas and get to work on it.
And if you have absolutely no idea, then start a blog and get writing. Head down to the store, buy yourself a beautiful note book and start journaling. Get your thoughts out and see where they take you. No one in the world is going to come knocking on your door and deliver you your passion.
I seriously thought that my first business was THE ONE. You know, that same feeling you had when you saw Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys for the first time. Turns out when it came to knowing what my passion was, I was just as delusional with it as I was with boy bands. My passion has evolved, but if I didn’t give my first business a shot then I wouldn’t have known that staying up late to pack orders wasn’t my thing.
Every time you find something you don’t want, you get closer to knowing what you do want. That’s the evolution of passion.
When you are doing what you love, then challenges get less frustrating and become more of a let’s figure this out scenario. When you’re doing something that you are passionate about, it no longer feels like work. And I was thrown some mighty challenges and a lot of hard work in my first business.
Someone else that sold the same stuff (who wasn’t even on my radar at the time) sent me a message out of the blue to tell me how disappointed she was that in such a competitive market I had no creativity and wanted to take customers and money away from her and her kids. I’m not even kidding. Women are meant to support and encourage, not tear each other down. Amiright? Legally, I wasn’t allowed to use testimonials because my baltic amber beads were a natural product without any scientific proof for evidence, and quite honestly, I felt the pull to do something else. My first business was exhausting me. When I described my business, my passion didn’t even enter my orbit.
So I woke up. I noticed that I was enjoying talking to other women at the baby and mum’s markets about how they could grow their own online business.
One night I before I went to sleep I asked for some “help” on what to call my business and before I had even relaxed under my sheets the words Soulful Warrior came into my mind. I checked the domains and they were available, but I was in bed, so faith kicked in and I told myself if it’s still available in the morning I’ll buy it.
While I’d like to say the rest is history, my passion has never stopped evolving, and I don’t expect it ever will. I started off thinking that I was the Soulful Warrior and I am here to teach and inspire, but that wasn’t the case at all. As I kept doing the work and kept putting stuff out there I realised that I am not the Soulful Warrior and it’s not a mould I have to fit. There is no one Soulful Warrior. Soulful Warrior is just an idea. An idea to be be courageous enough to follow your dreams. To be brave to try something new. To stop searching for external possessions to fill the gap and stand still and quite long enough to hear your heart tell you exactly what you need.
Every single person reading this blog that has done something daring and true, YOU embody the spirit of a Soulful Warrior.
So next time someone asks you what your passion is, or if you have found it yet, don’t feel discouraged. Everything is unfolding for you like pieces to a puzzle. With every action you take another piece presents itself to you, all you need to do is keep on doing.
Passion doesn’t hype.
Passion doesn’t fade.
It evolves and gets better with age.
Just like you!
